In 1940, Soviet Union annexed Latvia. Year later Hitler's Germany started the war against Soviet Union.

It took them about a week to occupy Latvia.

Fortunately, Leizer with all his family managed to escape Jelgava on the last train going to Russia.

After the family and himself found the refuge in the distant Siberian village, he went to fight German nazis.
